First Day of Summer

Looking for something to do today, the first day of summer? Look no further! Here is a list of fun things to do outside today. 

  • The Liaison Capitol Hill

    • Rooftop open to the public for swimming, eating, drinking
    • You can purchase a pool day pass for $35 a day.
    • BUT, rooftop happy hour runs from 5-7pm MondayFriday, and it’s FREE to enter after 5pm.

  • The Embassy Row Hotel

    • Rooftop open to the public for swimming, eating, drinking
    • You can purchase a day pass for $30 a day.
    • BUT, if you are dining, entrance is free.


  • NoMa Summer Screen

    • Free summer-long outdoor film festival in Northeast Washington, DC.
    • The event will be held on a large grassy lot, so bring a blanket, a low lawn chair, and a picnic.
    • Each film screening will be preceded by live DJs, special guests, BBQ, etc.
    • Dates: Wednesdays, June 7 – August 30, 2017
    • Tomorrow’s film is Election (R) @ 7pm


  • National Zoo

  • Capitol Riverfront Yard’s Park

    • The Yards Park, a premier waterfront destination, provides green space and water features for all to enjoy the outdoors along the Anacostia River.


  • Key Bridge Boathouse

    • Rent a kayak, canoe or even a standup paddleboard.
    • You can see the Georgetown waterfront, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and even the Washington Monument. You can also paddle over to Roosevelt Island.


  • Tidal Basin Paddle Boats

    • You can look at the Jefferson Memorial pedaling around the Tidal Basin on either a pedal boat or a swan boat.
