An IDeal Fall Week
Don’t let the short week keep you from getting out and having some fun. Better yet, keep your vacation mentality going through next weekend with these helpful hints for off-campus opportunities!
Taco Tuesday is an institution in DC in case you didn’t know. Click here to find some incredible deals at restaurants around town–I’ll bet you will find a place you have never been before, so take advantage of the opportunity to try something new.
Ri-Ra Irish Pub on M Street in Georgetown has arguably the best Wednesday night programming in the entire city. For happy hour they have $5 plates and drafts, $6 wines, and $7 spirits. Hang around for a while longer and at 8pm Underground Comedy DC presents a free show with high profile entertainers from the industry. Get your work done early, and plan to spend the rest of the evening at Ri Ra.
The transformation of the Districts old waterfront is nearly complete with the completion of The Wharf. They are holding a kickoff party all weekend starting on Thursday. There will be fireworks at sunset, live performances, and shops and restaurants worth checking out. Also, the Foo Fighters are debuting the grand opening of The Anthem–a 6,000 person concert venue–so maybe try to scalp a ticket for the already sold out show!
Sometimes it is hard enough to get off campus and out of the bubble. If you do make it out, let’s see your cunning in trying to make it out of Escape Room DC. They have locations in Georgetown, Glover Park, and Alexandria–click the link to view their promotions so you can get a discount!
Following a long week of less than IDeal weather, enjoy another warm weekend by doing something outside. Whether or not you are originally from the DC area you should consider getting out of the city to enjoy the beautiful countryside of Maryland and Virginia. Borrow a friends car, or get a student discount on your Zipcar rental, and go apple picking or find a pumpkin patch at any number of nearby farms.
If you are really up for an adventure, think about heading out to Bluemont, Virginia. Sitting atop a hill with seemingly endless views of the upper Shenandoah Valley, you can sample beers at Dirt Farm Brewery, or try the wines from Bluemont Vinyard next door. Head down the hill and across the street to the family farm and find fruits and produce from the harvest bounty, pick apples, or just go for a relaxing hayride.
If you do decide to stay in the city, The Wharf celebration will be continuing into the weekend. Additionally, Dave Attell is performing at DC Improv Friday-Sunday with other hilarious opening acts. Open the Student IDeals free mobile app, and find a place to grab a bite or drink before or after–just get out of your room or library and off campus!
